5 Essential Engine Maintenance Tips

Your engine is the heart of your vehicle. Any problems related to the engine have to be thoroughly checked and suitably rectified. At the Logic Fleet Service Centre, we perform all repairs on the engine and its components. We offer a thorough diagnosis, we guarantee a fast, affordable, high-quality service each and every time. Here are 5 Essential Engine Maintenance Tips:

1.Change your Engine Oil at Regular Intervals

Regular oil changes are considered one of the most important maintenance services for your car. To avoid severe engine damage, this simple and inexpensive service should be carried out at your vehicles service interval. Check your oil level every month. Check where you park your vehicle to ensure there is no oil leaks on the ground.

The oil filter is equally as important as it filters any debris or dirt from the oil and stops recirculation of debris back into the engine. This will ensure that you engine runs smooth and cool. Your oil filter needs to be replaced at every oil change

2. Regularly Check your Cooling System

Your cooling system should be checked for sufficient coolant level, contaminants or leaks. Taking care of the cooling system is an excellent preventive measure to ensure a long engine life of your vehicle. If your car over heats, pull in immediately and let your car cool down before checking the coolant system. Don’t drive your car if is overheating as you will cause further damage to your vehicle and could potentially blow the head gasket or damage the internal parts of your engine resulting in a costly repair.

If a vehicle is maintained to the manufacturer’s schedule at all times and well cared for, it can last upwards of 20 years.

3. Don’t Ignore your Engine Management Light

The check engine light can indicate a wide variety of issues that your car is having, but generally, these common issues are the cause:

Lost or missing fuel cap
– Blocked DPF
Failed oxygen sensor
Emission problems
Engine problems

Never ignore the Engine Management Light and immediately get your car inspected by your local garage.

4. Don’s Always Drive on Reserve Fuel

Petrol contains sediments which will settle at the bottom of your fuel tank. By topping up your tank you will avoid sucking up the dirt from the bottom of the tank which will cause premature wear on your fuel pump and filter. Don’t play roulette with your fuel gauge it is bad for your vehicle and can often leave you stranded

 5. Drive Smoothly.. Most of the Time

Engines are engineered to run at a constant speed. This is when they perform the best. You should practice this at all times. That means using the controls of your car while understanding how your engine works.

You should bring your engine to rev to the redline at least once every few hundred kilometers. This may involve dropping the gear down on automatics If you don’t rev your engine fully, carbon deposits can build up and foul the valves, intake manifold and other parts, reducing efficiency and potentially causing a misfire.
